Requirements
- Must have a 7 pattern syllabus for each level of each dance
- Must be able to demonstrate leaders and followers parts
- Must have a minimum of three ways to teach any movement/pattern
- Must be able to explain teaching concept differences between group/privates
- Must have a current knowledge of dance terminology
- Must be able to explain rates
- Must be able to explain music terminology/character
- Must show an ability to choreograph dance movements (social & show)
- Must be able to show a variety of dance positions and their uses
- Must be able to explain connection concepts
- Must have a feel for saturation

Each of the requirements above are expanded in the course. For example:

An instructor should have at least 7 variations in each level of any particular dance. There are thousands of variations, so mixing choreography and changing teaching material on a regular basis is a good way to avoid "burn-out". Successful instructors will not only change their material, but also the way a particular pattern is danced. This is acceptable as long as the instructor explains the other variations briefly, so as not to confuse the students that were in previous classes where the pattern was shown differently.
It is also sometimes necessary to have additional options for certain patterns, in case of mixed level classes. Below is an example:
WEST COAST SWING
The Basic Whip- with an outside roll (single for beginners....double for intermed-adv).
